Grand Sport Division -- Lower Classes: GS1 (130 MPH), GS2 (135 MPH), GS3 (140 MPH) Tech Speed: 168 MPH (150 MPH for Rookies)
Grand Sport Division -- Upper GS4 (145 MPH), GS5 (150 MPH), Tech Speed 168 MPH GS6 (155 MPH), Tech Speed: 172 MPH
The following are the minimum requirements for the Grand Sport Division:
A. First-time entrants to an Open Road Race may not enter in a class higher than GS1 and will be limited to a Tech Speed of 150 MPH. Other entrants to GS – Lower classes should have completed at least one event in the Grand Touring Division or equivalent. To enter the GS – Upper Division, a Driver (and Co-Driver) must have successfully completed a sanctioned Open Road Racing event in at least the GS1 class or equivalent, or possess the appropriate racing experience or competition license, as determined by the Race Director. To enter the GS6 Class, a Driver (and Co-Driver) must have successfully completed a sanctioned Open Road Racing event in the GS4 or GS5 class or equivalent, or possess the appropriate racing experience or competition license, as determined by the Race Director.
B. A 2.5 lb minimum, automotive BC fire extinguisher, with a secure quick-release mounting bracket made of metal, mounted within easy reach of driver. The quick release must be taped over to prevent accidental releasing of the latch but not so extensively as to prohibit releasing the latch in the event of an emergency.
C. A five or six-point safety harness system that includes three-inch (3") shoulder and lap belts. (See: Personal Safety Equipment). (Exception: 2” shoulder harnesses designed for use with the HANS device or similar devices are permitted.) The mounting of the harness must conform to the Restraint System Requirements, especially the shoulder harness mounting. This will be thoroughly checked at all Tech Inspections.
D. A competition approved Roll Bar (See: Roll Bar Specifications). Certain vehicles with built in OEM roll over structures may meet the minimum roll bar standard for the Division. Contact the Chief Technical Inspector to inquire about your particular vehicle. It is highly recommended that an additional roll bar be added to those vehicles with approved OEM roll over structures.
E. Helmets & Safety Equipment: See: Personal Safety Equipment.
F. A competition approved fire system and fuel cell is recommended. (See: Fuel and Equipment Restrictions) If a fuel cell is used, an automatic rollover fuel cutoff valve must be used.
G. A proper racing seat is highly recommended and may be required in certain cars.
H. A quick release steering wheel system is recommended.
I. Arm restraints are mandatory in ALL GS Divisions.
